Wynncraft is a game within a game. It is the largest MMORPG Minecraft server. While it is objectively only the fourth coolest thing about the server, I wanna talk about the custom music.
“Epic Wynn” is the first song the player will hear. It’s a shame that one of the best songs in the soundtrack is only accessible during the tutorial. Especially since some players don’t even realize the game has custom music. But let’s take a positive spin on this—for new players that do have noteblocks turned on, this track is a great introduction to the game.
The bass harp begins the track with a swirling arpeggio, which gives the feeling of waking up in a new world. (Which is exactly how the player starts the game.) The treble harp sings a dance and the drums join to reveal the heartbeat of the world. In the middle, the melody drops low to sing something melancholic—a loss or a longing—as an indication of how this fantastical world has been damaged by the Corruption and the war. This feeling is punctuated with a striking chord before the melody returns to the dance. When the drums return, the rimshots feel like the world giving the player a kick in the pants. “Get a move on now, there’s a war for new soldiers to fight and a whole province to explore.” As the track ends (that is, approaches the loop) the melody once again drops to that somber tone. A faint whisper that maybe this journey will not end in glory.
